Special Projects

It is rare for an artist to create a work of art that stirs so many emotions, leaving the viewer speechless. David Kracov has accomplished exactly this on more than one occasion. One of David’s greatest passions is to create sculptures that cause deep memories to surface and heartfelt emotions to stir. These creations may seem far from the wit and colorful linguistics for which he is known, but for David, each one is a personal opus to how life affects his art.

Coca-Cola Commission

Coca-Cola Open Happiness

Coca-Cola recently commissioned David to create a sculpture in honor of their 125th Anniversary. David’s creation, titled “Open Happiness”, measures 92cm x 92cm, and is made up of over 700 individually hand-painted butterflies. “Open Happiness” was featured alongside original Norman Rockwell paintings, and has been one of David’s most talked-about creation to date.

David is currently designing a large installation piece for Coca-Cola, but is keeping the project secret from everyone but a select few assistants. We will post images once the sculpture has been completed. What we can say is this will be one of two of the largest pieces David has ever created.

METAL CONTEMPLATION

Metal ContemplationFrom the direct inspiration of his original Holocaust memorial sculpture, “Contemplation”, David is creating a full-scale version fabricated entirely from metal. When completed, over 5,000 butterflies will soar over 15 ft into the air and create a plume that will expand over 25 ft around the boxcar. In his original “Contemplation”, David incorporated characters as part of the sculpture that stand in silent thought. When the metal version is completed, the viewers themselves, standing around and underneath the creation, will become a part of the piece. For David, to have the viewer not only have a deep visceral reaction to his sculpture, but to also become as one with it, has been a continuous passion.
